It just stays down there and burns to a crisp until you manually hit cancel. Then I realized why.nothing will ever pop up. I received this as a Christmas gift this year. Even with the setting on the lowest, #1, everything burned - even frozen items.
more than anything in my kitchen, but their toaster is such a piece of crap. I love my Cuisinart F.P. If you like your bread toasted on only one side, let me know and I'll give you mine. I liked the look of this toaster, the price and the brand name. Can't go wrong.
Red light stays on, I always feel it has something in it but look anyway. Pleasing shape and exterior. Talk to me in a few years to see how long it is fine. For the price it is fine. Fits sliced bagels with ease. Seems to require higher setting to brown items (4-5) which was contrary to other reviews.
DO NOT BUY THIS THING. You can clearly see that the coils on one side are larger than they are on the other, so of course this happens. In lieu of purchasing one, you should just hold a Bic lighter up to some bread. I don't expect a lot out of a toaster, but this one, by Cuisinart, of all companies, is worthless. Even on the lowest setting, one side of the bread gets charred, and the other side barely browned.
For someone used to setting the dial light through dark, 1-9, then pressing down the lever, figuring out how to use it was an initial enigma. These are the mysteries. This is a good model for the price. Why "bagel" and not "toast". It seems to work well enough. It was not automatically apparent how to use it, because there is no "toast" setting, and unless one reads the directions, one does not know to press an invisible dot next to "bagel" to get the toaster to "toast". " I set the dial to 7, why the heck isn't this toasting." "Why don't you dig out the directions and read them." "Oh, there's an invisible white press dot next to the light that says "bagel", press that." "Ok".
